It’s not often that a company in Belize discloses information about cyber-attacks, but BEL has always been at the forefront of transparency as a cooperate citizen. In today’s release, BEL informed its customers and the general public that they received a report indicating that information had been leaked from a previous attack launched in May 2023.
The disclosed information contained data and information about their confidential transactional information pertaining to employees, customers, and network configurations stored on servers and other endpoints. They assure the public that their critical IT software and database systems related to customer, financial, and operational technologies had remained confidential.
While their team has continuously continued their May 2023 investigation they assure the public that it had stepped up their cyber-security measures. These include Intrusion Detection and Prevention systems that hope to identify and prevent malicious actors and attacks.
This attack goes to show that for those who are oblivious to the topic of cyber-attacks in Belize; it is prevailing everywhere! Belize is no exception, and cyber-attacks like these are bound to grow as we progress into a more tech-savvy era.
