As I reflect on the past six years at Galen University, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of gratitude and accomplishment. Acting as the System Director / Administrator has been one of the most enriching chapters of my professional journey. Throughout these years, I had the privilege of working alongside remarkable colleagues, forming friendships, and expanding my professional network. Each experience has shaped me, not only as a tech professional but also as a mentor, decision-maker, and lifelong learner.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my role was the opportunity to influence technological investments at the University. I was fortunate enough to be part of critical decision-making processes regarding the technologies we adopted and invested in, ensuring the continuous improvement of Galen University’s infrastructure. This period allowed me to dive deep into emerging trends, explore new technological frontiers, and familiarize myself with cutting-edge innovations that are driving the industry forward.
In addition to my tech administrative responsibilities, I also dedicated five years to lecturing in Galen’s Computer Science department. I had the pleasure of teaching a variety of courses, ranging from foundational subjects like Microcomputer Applications to more advanced topics such as Computer Networking. Meeting students from different walks of life brought a sense of fulfillment that is hard to put into words. I learned a great deal from these bright minds and was challenged by some who pushed me to continuously adapt and refine my teaching methods. As any educator knows, not every class runs smoothly, and not every student is easy to guide. But therein lies the beauty of teaching—it is a journey of mutual growth and relentless pursuit of excellence.
Parallel to my role at Galen, I also served as an adjunct lecturer at St. John’s College University over the past year and a half, contributing to their Cybersecurity program. This experience kept me closely aligned with developments in my field and gave me a broader perspective on the varying academic mindsets across institutions. One of the key lessons I drew from this role was the importance of fostering independence among students at the university level. Unlike primary or secondary education, where instruction is often formulaic, teaching at this level required me to shift from the traditional “teacher” role to that of a guide. It became evident that success lies in the hands of those willing to invest time and effort in their learning journey.
As the New Year begins, I find myself stepping into a new phase. I have concluded my time at Galen University and will be taking a break from lecturing, at least for a few years. However, I am proud to have left behind something meaningful—the development of Galen University’s Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity program. After significant effort and collaboration, the program has been approved by the board and will officially launch in August, with marketing efforts commencing this January. Though I may no longer walk the halls of Galen, this program stands as a testament to my passion and dedication to the field of cybersecurity.
Looking forward, I am thrilled to announce that I am joining the Millennium Challenge Account – Belize as the IT Manager. This initiative represents a significant partnership between the USA and Belize, focusing on good governance, economic freedom, and citizen investment. The Belize Compact, in particular, seeks to address pressing challenges in the education and energy sectors in Belize. I am both honored and excited to be part of this transformative project, contributing to national development through technology and innovation. For those interested in learning more, you can read about the initiative here.
I view this new role as a pivotal step in my professional growth. It offers a chance to expand my horizons, take on new challenges, and make a tangible impact at a national level. As I embrace this next chapter, I carry with me the lessons, memories, and accomplishments of my time at Galen University.
To all my colleagues, students, and friends who have been part of this journey—thank you for your unwavering support. Here’s to new beginnings, growth, and endless possibilities.
Happy New Year!
